Kaapsehoop Horse Trails is a well-known and peaceful retreat on the Drakensberg escarpment, 35km from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga in South Africa.
The Horse Trails were established in 1994 by Christo, a 17,000 hectare private concession on the Berlin forestry plantation of Komatiland.
With 30 years of trail riding experience Christo works on a natural horsemanship basis. Here you can enjoy comfortable and safe horse riding whether a beginner or an experienced rider, on the well-trained cross-bred horses, with a choice of english or western type saddles.
Stay over in the farm-style self catering accommodation for a reviving break in the country side, surrounded by nature's tranquility.
As part of our educational programme, there is a fun-filled 5-day pony camp for the kids during school holidays, fun alternative ways of learning is through the tailor made packages for school groups as well as equine student programmes. Also a new edition is the volunteer experience.

a unique experience to really bond with one's horse...

This experience is for competent riders who are in riding fit condition due to the duration of the trail. Cantering and trotting at a strong working controlled pace is a must where area permitting due to the distance of the trail.
The trail runs through forested, grassland and escarpment areas with undulating terrain; visuals and interaction between wild horses, fauna and flora. Some of the best wild horses are in the area traversed on this trail as well as a broad diversity of flora.

The Wilderness trail runs over 3 days. On arrival at Kaapsehoop Horse Trails, a short introduction ride is a must as great care is taken on the selection of horse to client. Depart from base camp after breakfast the following morning and ride to the overnight camp (about 4 - 6 hours) where the following 2 nights are spent.
The rustic camp is situated in an old gold mining area with comfortable accommodation and tented facilities, warm water showers but no electricity. Most meals are done on camp fire, overlooking a stunning gorge with a high diversity of bird life.
